2007 Season Over, 2008 Brings Changes to KEG Motorsports

2008 Waterford CarThe 2007 season seemed like a long and disappointing one to me. (That’s probably why I didn’t update the website all season). We were about a 6th or 7th place car for the first three quarters of the season. No matter what we tried, we couldn’t get any faster. So finally I went back to Jay Stuart for advice. He turned me away from the Dare Stock setup I was still running and gave me a totally different baseline to start with, making my car much like his late model setup that he runs. It took a lot to get used to, with the car having a totally different feel to it. We ended the season with 3 podium finishes in the final 5 races. Even though I wasn’t happy with the year, we still ended up 3rd in points, so it couldn’t have been all that bad.

2008 Stafford Car2008 will bring a few changes for us. We will run the limited late model again at Stafford, but with a reverse paint scheme. The main color of the car will be purple with black razor graphics down the side. Hopefully it will be something different that will catch people’s eyes.

The biggest change though will be that we are planning to run a part time schedule at the Waterford Speedbowl in the sportsman division. We have a car that I am putting together with some of my spare limited parts. The plan is to paint the car the same as the limited. So hopefully everything works out and we will have a great year next year. Hopefully we could pick up some sponsorship help or any help for that matter.

I want to thank everyone for staying with me this season. Even though it didn’t go as well as I wanted it to, everyone stuck behind me and didn’t give up. I have to give a special thanks to Dave Miller of Automachine East Windsor and Ken Gilli of Gilli’s Gearboxes for everything they do for me. Without your help, I would never be able to race in the limited late model division. I truly appreciate it.

KEVIN GAMBACORTA WINS 2006 LIMITED LATE MODEL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

With a lot of hard work and a little bit of good luck, we were able to hold on and win our second Stafford Motor Speedway Track Championship. We can now add the 2006 Limited Late Model Track Championship to go along with our 2004 DARE Stock Track Championship.

The final race of the year was a real pressure cooker as George Nocera and I swapped the points lead back and forth throughout the race. Coming to the white flag, he had the point lead and the championship, but I was able to dig down deep and get passed the car in front of me, good enough for 2 more points and the track championship. I definitely want to congratulate George and his team on an awesome season and thank him for being a gentleman and racing me very clean throughout the race.

I cannot believe that we have now won two track championships at Stafford. When
I look at all these other teams we compete against, many of them have huge
pit crews and sponsors all over their cars. It just blows my mind that we can compete with and beat these guys. I feel that everything I am lacking in pit crew support and sponsorship money I try to make up for with hard work and dedication. And for a second season, it has worked for us. If you throw out last year where we only raced half a season, we have won back to back championships. It just amazes me.

I certainly could not have done it all by myself. I feel that the secret to my success is hard work and surrounding myself with good people. The most important person to my team this year has to be Dave Miller of Automachine East Windsor. Dave built me a motor on his own time with his own parts so I could be out there racing. Ken Gilli of Gilli's Gearboxes is another great guy that I have been able to associate myself with. I also need to thank my girlfriend Sarah, my parents, my cousin Dave, my aunt and uncle, and the Voiland's for all of their support. I want to thank Pete from PeteGomez.com, Barry from Kar Kare Auto Body, Kevin from Executive Landscaping, and Pete from CT Axle Service for all of their help this season.

Finally, I hope that someone out there would be willing to take a chance on me to drive for them next season. I have always dreamed of racing a Late Model or SK Modified, and I think that with two championships, hopefully I have shown that there must be some talent or ability there. I am just going to keep working hard and hope for the best.

KEVIN GAMBACORTA MOVES TO 2ND IN POINTS

9-01-06

With only three races remaining in the 2006 season, we are currently the points leader by 14 points. We took over the lead by winning our second feature of the season on September 1st.

We started the race from the eight position. At the drop of the green I made an aggressive move through the middle, and was in the third position after lap one. I slowly began to make my way to the front, and at lap ten, I took over the first position. From there it was just easy into the corners and hard off. The car had a ton of bite up off the corner and I began to drive away from the pack. At lap 16, a caution came out, but I just remained calm on the restart, and again drove off from second place to record win number two on the season.

Again, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family and all of the other great people who are behind us. Jay Stuart, who has been a huge help to me this year, was there to see the win too, which I thought was very cool.

It is all up to me now to hold on for the final three races. I just need to be smart behind the wheel, and keep working hard at the shop during the week. Hopefully good luck will be on our side for the rest of the season. Thanks for supporting our team and keep voting for me for most popular driver.
